Virtue for the term: Gratitude.

Tonight was the first of our man vs. wild series.  Hopefully the boys got see a freshly hunted and killed wild rabbit skinned and diced and possibly tasted a few not so common parts of an animal.

Next  week  for part 2 of man vs. wild we will be doing first aid. This is a change in the calendar. A big focus on this night will be burns and how to treat them. The latest findings now recommend that a burn needs to be placed under running water for 20 minutes.

The following week we will be doing our famine night. On this night we have created some new games to help our boys understand world poverty and the exciting part they can play to make a difference. Tonight there will be a chance for the boys to pick up a sponsorship pack and do the famine. Check out the pack for more details.

Our final Man vs Wild will be the night walk. This will either take place in Totara park or on a farm 15 minutes drive from church. The boys will need to bring some warm clothes a jacket and old footwear because it will get muddy.  We will be back by the 7:30pm.

There is no Iconz on Queens birthday weekend.

Our Cops night is still under development. Jeremy and Simon, 2 of our leaders are both acting police officers and are investigating possible activities, so it is sure to be an exciting night. We at this stage do not whether it will take place at church or off site but it be definitely not one to miss.

Fire night. We are hoping to have some fire fighters come to us on this night. We will also be giving the boys a chance to experience some real fire simulations and how to put them out.

Our master chief series will take place over 3 nights. A lot of boys have not had much experience in the kitchen, over these 3 weeks we hope to give them a little more, even to extent where they might be a little more helpful at home. We will be focusing a different part of the meal each night and hopefully on our final night you will be able to taste some of there dishes.

Christian virtues.

A key part of Iconz is promoting and encouraging virtues. They way we do this is the boys  get to hear stories from the bible that promote a virtue and then in small groups they get to discuss it. For the first part of this term we will be doing something called faith 5. Basically the kids share a high (something positive that’s happened to them that week ) and we thank God for it and then the kids share a low and  if appropriate we pray for it. At the end we thank God that he always loves  us no matter what and that he will always be with us. Through sharing our highs and lows kids get to build gratitude for good things that happen in life and also compassion for others when things happen that aren’t so  great.

The second part of the term we will be heading into our first focused virtue which is courage. Included in tonight’s notes is an example of a Godtime card. The boys will be going home with these each night we discuss the virtue. The Godtime  cards give you an overview of what we will be sharing with the boys on a weekly basis and an opportunity to continue the theme at home if you wish.

Changes in the calendar.

In term 3 we have changed  a few themes and are focusing on building and racing go carts.  The boys in their small groups will have  an opportunity to developing there building skills and also see the creation of a motorised go cart. At the end the boys will to race their own (push) go carts and hopefully get to drive the groups motorised one. Our 5 weeks of building will end with the return of our Iconz 500 fundraiser, but this time it will be under lights.

As always guys if you have any questions , ideas or concerns please let us know.
